Carl Suchy & Söhne has long been inspired by the work of Austrian architect Josef Hoffmann and his influence can be felt in many of their designs. However, they’ve never paid direct tribute to the man himself until now with the introduction of the Waltz N°1 Hoffmann Special Edition. A distinctive timepiece that features a rotating second disc positioned at 6 o’clock in Hoffman’s distinctive architectural style. The watch takes its name from this ‘waltzing’ complication, which creates a guilloché-faceted display that rotates continuously.
The case measures 41.5mm in diameter and is constructed from polished steel. This sizing places the watch in the larger range for men’s dress watches, especially in the wake of the neo-vintage trend of the past two years. The polished finish provides a traditional aesthetic that complements the watch’s classical design elements.

Instead of the signature guilloché-faceted display seen on the standard Waltz models, this special edition consists of a series of concentric rings. A motif that continues on the rotating second disc at the 6 o’clock position. The disc rotates continuously to serve as the seconds hand, creating a hypnotic visual effect as the pattern continually shifts. It’s powered by the Vaucher VMF 5401 movement, an automatic calibre provides a 48-hour power reserve when fully wound.

The watch comes fitted with a black leather strap that features an adjustable two-sided folding clasp with security push-pieces for added security during wear. This strap choice provides a classic complement to the steel case and maintains the watch’s dress watch character.
The Waltz N°1 Hoffmann Special Edition is priced at CHF 19,450 (approx. £18,400), excluding VAT. That makes it approximately £5,000 higher than the standard Waltz N°1, which stems from the added complexity of the dial including its integrated hour markers.
