Brew Downsize with Metric Lite 30mm Collection

Small watches are hotter than they’ve been in a long while. Just today we published an article singing the praises of smaller diameters settling on 36mm as the perfect size for a small watch. Though in that article we mention that proper vintage watches could even be 32mm or less. It’s that same retro-vintage inspiration that has led Brew to release the Metric Lite in a new diminutive 30mm case sizing.

Immediately I can already foresee the comments saying that 30mm is too small, particularly for a man. However, Brew have done the correct thing and taken photos of the watch on both men and women’s wrists, to give you an impression of the watch on everyone. The outcome in my opinion is that it genuinely seems like a unisex design. In the way that men’s bracelets often take the form of a plain band, the cushion shape of the case with an integrated bracelet makes it feel like a piece of men’s jewellery. Which let’s be honest, is what the vast majority of watches technically are these days.

There are three versions of the Brew Metric Lite being produced. The first features a steel case and bracelet with a black dial, the second features the same case but a mother-of-pearl dial (the most feminine of the trio) and the last features an additional gold PVD coating and a black dial. The dials themselves are very handsome with a three-hand, dateless layout featuring applied baton indexes and matching central hands. As it’s not a chronograph model, it goes without the signature coffee timing indicator but it retains the brand’s coffee bean logo, so it still carries an affinity for coffee aficionados.

It’s powered by the Miyota 6T27 automatic movement. The fact that it’s mechanical is somewhat surprising as it’s more common to see quartz movements in such small watches, even from brands like Cartier who commonly work in sizes like this. Considering the diminutive proportions of the 6T27 it still packs reasonable enough specs including a 40-hour power reserve and an accuracy of +40/-20 seconds per day. Not astonishing but come on, the watch costs £280 so what are you complaining about.

Yep, it really is just £280. Which means that regardless of if men do pick it up or if it ends having an almost exclusively female wearer-base, it will sell incredibly well. I suspect there will be a lot of men who buy them for their partners. It’s the type of watch you would be happy to admire on the wrist of someone you love even though you might not think it suits yourself.
