Bremont Update Core Collections for 2022

Bremont Airco Mach 1 Jet

Bremont assert their dominance over the skies and seas around Britain with updates to some of their classic watches in bronze and stealthy ‘Jet’ black DLC. The watches in question are the Argonaut Bronze, Supermarine Chrono Jet, S502 Jet and Airco Mach 1 Jet. There’s also a fifth watch, which we’re going to kick things off with, the Supermarine Descent II.

Supermarine Descent II

Bremont Supermarine Descent II

The Supermarine Descent II isn’t so much an update to an existing watch as it is a revival of Bremont’s first ever limited edition diving watch. The new watch is bi-metallic with the body of the 43mm diameter piece created from titanium and the bezel in bronze. Both are classic materials for the underwater realms and as part of the Supermarine range, the Descent II has a water resistance of 500m. The middle barrel portion of the case has been given a black DLC coating as well, so it really is the flagship of Bremont’s bronze and jet releases.

Bronze and titanium is a charmingly off-kilter and darker toned variation on the classic bi-colour combination of steel and gold. The watch’s lume coated hands and indexes are also bronze plated, making them stand out from the clean black dial. A hint of colour is provided by a light blue GMT hand that works in conjunction with a peripheral 24-hour scale. The shade of blue matches the blue rubber strap it comes on, which works really well, alternatively there’s a black strap option.

The movement housed inside is the Modified calibre 11 1/2’’’ BE-93-2AV automatic chronometer. It features hours, minutes, seconds, GMT function and a date function set at 3 o’clock. Additionally, it has a power reserve of 42-hours.

Argonaut Bronze

Bremont Argonaut Bronze

Bremont’s Argonaut range is their specialist, marine British military watch. The name Argonaut refers back to Greek myths and is a phrase often used on Royal Navy commissioned ships for 250 years. The Argonaut Bronze, in addition to the Descent II above, shows the watchmaker’s commitment to expanding its use of the material in their core collections, which excels at providing a hint of vintage flair to any watch.

Bronze is historically a material associated with marine environments due to its resistance to salt corrosion. It also patinas meaning each watch will be left with its own unique pattern and story.

There are two versions of the Argonaut Bronze being produced, one with a black dial and a second with a “Sargasso” blue dial, a shade used by the navy. As you’d expect from a military watch, the dial is no-nonsense and the movement inside is equally serious, the modified calibre 11 1/2’’’ BE-92AV Chronometer, modified from the ETA 2892-A2.

Supermarine Chrono Jet

Next up is the Supermarine Chrono Jet, which is the first of three new stealthy versions of existing Bremont watches. The Supermarine Chrono Jet combines a chronograph and GMT function within the rugged durability of a 43mm diameter stainless steel case with black DLC coating. DLC, or Diamond Like Carbon, is a coating the improves the scratch resistance of steel and gives the watch a dark, black finish.

As a dive watch, legibility is maintained through the use of contrasting white subdials and plenty of lume although the large exhibition back means the water resistance is reduced at 200m.

S502 Jet

Bremont S502 Jet

Next, the S502 Jet is a tactical take on Bremont’s retro inspired professional diver, the S501. The black of the case and dial highlight the vintage style beige lume, making it more prominent. The large, circular indexes interspersed with rectangular ones is reminiscent of iconic 1960s divers. The S502 also has a GMT function, which is not typically associated with diving watches but three of Bremont’s underwater offerings in their updated core collections for 2022 feature them.

Airco Mach 1 Jet

By now the terms Jet and DLC are likely ingrained into your brain but there’s just one more to go and it takes us from the water to the skies. The Airco Mach 1 is one Bremont’s bestselling pilot’s watch and one of their most traditional. As with the other Jet releases, the stainless steel case now has a tactical, stealthy black DLC coating, although here it’s more selective as the crown and caseback have been left to shine. It complements the fairly minimal dial really well.
