Spiderman 3 wasn’t great, let’s be honest. Even if you forget Toby Maguire’s dancing – which we really, really wish we could – nothing about it really worked. Still, it had one thing going for it that the painfully unnecessary Andrew Garfield reboots didn’t though: Venom. Now it looks like the symbiotic space sludge is getting a second shot at the silver screen, draping itself over the undeniably fine features of Mr Tom Hardy. I have a mancrush, so sue me. Either way, if you’ve not seen the trailer, go watch it now. It’s not your usual shallow good guy vs bad guy script. A keen watch collector might also spot something else – the sleek, sinister and voraciously venom-esque watch on his wrist – the Bremont U-2/51-JET.
Apparently Hardy requested to wear the watch himself which, given that he’s a pretty big collector himself isn’t all too surprising. If any watch is going to survive the inevitable battle zone of Venom it’s the U2. It was originally designed for elite military squadrons, hence it’s dark, stealthy look. This version’s a little fresher than the original, taking its cues from the Hawk T1 Jet rather than older aircraft.
Don’t worry though; for once Bremont hasn’t smuggled a piece of the inspiration into the watch. We’re happy watching a bi-polar alien parasite on the screen; less keen to become one.
