Bremont Jaguar D-Type Watch

Other than reruns of The Two Ronnies you’re unlikely to find a more British partnership than that between Jaguar and Bremont. It’s one that’s been around a surprising amount of time (for watch / car partnerships anyway), ever since the first Bremont clocks found their way into the Bond villain CX75.

It’s a partnership that’s come a long way since, with a full collection of automotive timepieces as well as a few limited editions, including the spectacular E-Type tie-in and, now, this: the Bremont D-Type.

For the less automotive-inclined, the Jaguar D-Type was arguably the first real supercar. It was built for and excelled on the track, but was also road legal with a full 300bhp. It won more than its fair share of races, winning Le Mans 3 times and became an icon of automotive design with it’s oversized rear wing.

Originally 100 of these things were planned but, thanks to fiery setbacks, the last 25 were never built. Until now. Jaguar Classic has announced that they are building the last quarter of the original order and they will be period-appropriate in the same vein as the Lightweight E-Types from a few years back.

To celebrate, Bremont has released a tribute to the car in the form of a tachymeter-equipped limited edition chronograph. If you’ve seen the wider Bremont Jaguar collection you’ll know what to expect: a nicely chunky sports watch with a few subtle automotive details such as a Dunlop tyre tread-embellished crown. The blue dial is subtly layered and boast contrasting chronograph subdials but, more importantly, also bears the vintage Jaguar logo.

On the reverse the automotive hints are far less subtle, with a rotor in the shape of a Jaguar steering wheel. It’s a nice touch, even if you won’t see it often, and finishes the BE-50AE chronometer movement off perfectly.,

Limited to 300 pieces – a reference to the original car’s horsepower – the Bremont D-Type will be a hell of a lot less rare than the Jaguar, but not by much. At the very least it’s easier to get hold of; it’s available from Bremont boutiques right now.
