With their emphasis on limited edition drops, every new Brellum release is a little bit of an event, especially if you like sleek tool watches. That was especially true of the Brellum Pilot GMT LE.1 Chronometer, an incredibly handsome aviation watch that’s now back in the aptly named Brellum Pilot GMT LE.2 Chronometer.
Let’s not beat around the bush too much here, the main change here is switching from a handsome, slightly more classical white dial with black indexes to a dark blue with white indexes. And by main change, I really do mean the only change. The case, movement and red-tipped GMT hand are all the same.
That’s not a bad thing of course, we see colour swaps regularly and most don’t change the overall look of the watch as much as white to blue. It takes the Brellum Pilot GMT LE.2 Chronometer from high contrast in the vein of early, military-slanted pilots watches to something a lot more everyday and wearable. And when the rest of the ingredients are this good, any chance to add one of these limited-edition pieces to your collection is worth it.
The Brellum Pilot GMT LE.2 Chronometer’s 41.8mm case is the perfect size for a watch with this much going on across it – a tricompax chronograph layout, complete with an outer 24-hour ring paired with a GMT hand. Any less and you risk it being unreadable; any bigger and it becomes cumbersome on the wrist.
Inside we have the Brellum BR-754 GMT, an upgraded Valjoux 7754 with a 46-hour power reserve, shock resistance Incabloc, Glucydur Balance and Nivarox Alloy Hairspring. It’s resistant to shock, magnetism and running down too quickly. The COSC certified movement is also incredibly handsome, as seen through the Brellum Pilot GMT LE.2 Chronometer’s exhibition caseback.
Like the previous version, the Brellum Pilot GMT LE.2 Chronometer is limited to just 23 pieces, although it’s actually slightly more affordable at £3090, compared to the LE.1’s £3,120. Given things normally drift upwards, that’s a nice touch for a very, very nice watch.
