Aventi Introduce New Wraith A15-01 Saphite™ Paraiba with Innovative Blue Saphite™ Case

Aventi Wraith AH15-01 Saphite™ Paraiba

Aventi have already proven themselves to be a formidable force in the arena of sapphire crystal watches, thanks in large part to their accessibility in comparison to their competitors. Now they’ve gone a step further, developing their own proprietary crystalline material called ‘Saphite™’, which they’ve used to great effect in the new Aventi Wraith A15-01 Saphite™ Paraiba.

Aventi Wraith A15-01 Saphite™ Paraiba

Saphite™ is described as having a crystalline structure embedded within a glassy matrix. That sounds all well and good on paper but the main question is how does it compare to pure sapphire? Well, it’s more scratch resistant and has a lower refractive index. The refractive index of a material gives an indication of how much a ray of light bends as it passes through it, with higher indexes bending light more. Saphite’s index of 1.65 compared to sapphire’s 1.76 means it has greater visual clarity when looking through it.

Additionally, Saphite™ is much easier to give colour to than sapphire and there are no limitations to the colour it can have. The Wraith A15-01 Saphite Paraiba has a tourmaline blue colouration, inspired by the tourmalines mined in the Paraiba region of Brazil. Aventi’s signature facetted case enhances its jewel-like appearance.

Just as striking as the case is the new dial, which features a spiky, partially skeletonised design decorated with hobnail guilloché. The main area of guilloché sits beneath the central hand stack, above the tourbillon at 6 o’clock, and flairs out towards the corners of the dial.

Since the central areas are skeletonised, it reminds me a little of a superhero’s mask or the makeup worn by the band Kiss. Another interesting element of the display is the fact that the hands are made of sapphire, bordered with lume, giving them the appearance of skeleton hands.

Aventi GT-01S

Under the surface, the Aventi Wraith A15-01 Saphite™ Paraiba houses Aventi’s calibre GT-01S, which has seen use in models like the A13. It’s a manual winding, tourbillon movement with a power reserve of over four-days.

Sapphire watches are an area at the cutting edge of watch development and technology. And the Aventi Wraith A15-01 Saphite™ Paraiba is an exciting step forward in expanding what is possible with crystalline material. We’re just wondering what colour they will go with next.
