Aquacy is an American watch brand who believe that watches should be symbols of strength, good luck and safe travels. That’s something reflected in their watches themselves through their robust construction and reliable movements – after all, what is good luck but being prepared for every eventuality. Their latest collection of dive watches is the CuSn8 Exotic Dial Series combining bronze cases with stylish stone and mineral dials.
Let’s start by taking a look at the case, which measures 41mm in diameter with a water resistance of 200m. It’s reminiscent of iconic diving watches from the last century and the unidirectional diving bezel in particular has a flavour of the Omega Seamaster. Although the bezel remains distinct thanks to the unique, spine-like shape of it knurled edge that provides plenty of grip. Coincidentally the shape also makes it easy to turn the bezel the correct way while if you attempt to turn it the wrong way your fingers slide off.
Structurally, the case is made from a bronze alloy called CuSn8, which is what the watch is named after. It’s the premium bronze alloy used in watchmaking because its purity means it reacts to oxygen less and it’s much slower to develop a patina compared to lower grades. Patina is one of those things that either collectors love or hate and with CuSn8 it’s easy enough to either choose to allow the metal to develop a patina or keep it clean in order to maintain that rose gold-esque colouration.
As for the dials there are seven options to choose from. They are: lapis lazuli, tiger’s eye, turquoise, malachite, black marble, abalone shell and mother-of-pearl. Due to the fact they’re all naturally occurring substances, no two dials are identical and each one displays its own textures and patterns. My personal favourites are the lapis lazuli and malachite editions because I feel like they suit the nautical theme of the watch the best. The lapis is reminiscent of an under water scene while the malachite green is almost the colour of patina in and of itself.

Beneath the exotic dial, regardless of which colourful option you choose, is housed the Miyota 8215 automatic movement. It’s a calibre that has been around for decades, having been first introduced all the way back in 1977. But that just goes to show how reliable and well thought of the movement is and it still holds up compared with more modern calibres thanks to its 42-hour power reserve.
I like how each watch in the Aquacy CuSn8 Exotic Dial Series feels individual even compared to the other watches in the collection. Between the bronze and the exotic materials, they have the allure of a forgotten sea treasure. Fortunately, they don’t have the price tag that such forgotten treasures would have at a very reasonable $749 (approx. £610). Plus, with discount code ORACLE you can get a $85 (approx. £70) discount for a limited time on top of the current Aquacy sale.

A $749 watch that’s using a cheap crappy Miyota 8215? They’re having a laugh. That movement is renowned for a stuttering second hand thanks to its indirect drive movement. There’s no excuse these days not to use a decent movement like the Seiko NH35A which costs very little more but doesn’t have a second hand that jumps about resembling a quartz watch at times. Heck you can buy £50 watches on AliExpress that use a Seiko movement these days. If a watch manufacturer wants to.be taken seriously no way should they stick a Miyota 8215 in the back.
Actually, the stated price is the notional retail price.
The real price is 233 gbp. Then there is the discount code which will shave off a chunk.
