TAG Heuer Enters Le Mans with the Formula 1 Gulf Special Edition

TAG Heuer Formula 1 Gulf Special Edition

More than any other watchmaker, TAG Heuer is inextricably linked with racing. They all but defined the racing watch with the Carrera and petrol’s been pumping through their horological blood stream ever since – especially now with the launch of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Gulf Special Edition.

Unveiled ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the most prestigious endurance event in the racing world, the new watch is sporting the livery of a very special car. That entrant is the legendary Ford GT 40, the car that fifty years ago won Le Mans draped in the colours of Gulf Oil.

The orange and blue certainly make a splash; you can’t mistake the special edition for anything other than a racing chronograph. As with other Formula 1s, the movement is accurate to a tenth of a second for flawless timing. Even for a  quartz watch that’s an impressive achievement.

The sporty 43mm case is pure sports performance that can only be helped by the racing stripes on the dial itself. Engraved on the back with the Gulf logo, the watch isn’t limited in numbers but won’t be around for long.

TAG Heuer has also created a limited edition version of their famous Monaco in those same Gulf colours… but with just 50 of those in the world, you’ll need to be a damn sight quicker than a Ford GT for a chance at getting one.
