Piaget Release Andy Warhol ‘Camouflage’ Limited Edition in Marquetry

In 2024, Piaget announced their official collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation of the Visual Arts, renaming one of the historic Piaget models owned and worn by the artist as the Andy Warhol watch. As part of that partnership, Piaget is creating one limited edition per year dedicated to Warhol’s artworks. In 2025 that was the ‘Collage’ and now for 2026 they have unveiled the Andy Warhol ‘Camouflage’.

The watch pays tribute to one of Warhol’s final works of art, Self-Portrait in camouflage, produced in 1986 just a few months before his passing in 1987. In classic Warhol fashion, there were several versions of the work produced, featuring the same image of Warhol’s head in a black void covered in a camouflage pattern, but with different colours used in the pattern across the separate versions.

Piaget have used a version of the portrait where the camouflage is presented in shades of blue and yellow as their inspiration for the Andy Warhol ‘Camouflage’ watch. However, rather than painting the dial of the watch in those colours, they have used a Metiers d’Art technique called marquetry, where natural materials are carefully shaped so that they interlock with each other in almost flawless fashion – the most precise jigsaw you’ve ever seen. Here, the materials on display are a combination of semi-precious stones and gold. Specifically, sodalite for the dark blue, turquoise for the light blue and then both pink and yellow gold for the lighter tones.

In some regards it feels like a combination of the 2024 and 2025 editions, bringing the patterns of the first watch and the colours of the second. I think it really works. The colours are striking and a little bit unusual to see together in this way but somehow harmonious – flexing the difference between light and shadow in a way that camouflage should. Almost as if one of the most famous artists of all time and known for his dramatic use of colour was good at what he did.

The dial is housed in a white gold case with gadroon decoration – the smooth, rounded lines around the edge of the case. The case also has an equally rounded, cushion shape that gives the piece a surprisingly large diameter of 45mm. Though from when we got hands-on with the 2025 edition, I know that it doesn’t feel as large as that because of the way the lugs and crown are integrated into the case body.

Inside is the calibre 501P1 automatic with 40-hour power reserve. It’s an ultra-thin, 3.63mm movement that means the case containing it is just 8.08mm thick, which also helps prevent the watch from feeling too large. The solid caseback that protects the movement is decorated with Andy Warhol’s signature.

For pricing and availability, the combination of a gold case and Metiers d’Art dial does make the Andy Warhol ‘Camouflage’ a very exclusive timepiece. It’s £79,000 in a limited edition of 86 pieces, referencing the 1986 date of production. Not a watch for the average collector then. Though for Warhol art collectors, it’s pennies compared to the $18.1 million paid at a Sotheby’s auction for one of the original artworks in 2023. For that money, you could buy out the entire limited edition run of this watch twice-and-a-half. A reminder that while wristwatch money can exorbitant, it’s not the only industry where that is the case.
