While Oceaneva’s bread and butter are overengineered tool watches capable of tackling both the rigours of daily life and the extreme depths, they have steadily been expanding their remit to include additional wristwatch archetypes. With the Tenuis they introduced their take on integrated bracelet sports watches and now with the Tempus Pure, they’ve launched their first titanium dress watch with a manual-winding movement. As the name suggests, it’s stripped back to the essentials of timekeeping: Tempus Pure.
Starting with the case, it’s made from Grade 5 titanium, a higher spec alloy compared to the more common Grade 2 titanium also used in watchmaking. Grade 5 is a harder alloy, which makes it more scratch resistant and also able to take a wider range of finishes including near mirror polishing that are practically impossible on Grade 2. It’s also very lightweight and strong meaning the Oceaneva Tempus Pure weighs just 57g.
For sizing, it measures 42mm in diameter with a thickness of 10.46mm including the crystal. That’s very slim compared to Oceaneva’s penchant for large tool watches, reflecting the Tempus Pure’s dress watch status. However, at the same time, the Tempus Pure is no delicate flower as 42mm gives it plenty of presence on the wrist and with 200m water resistance it’s still a versatile watch for a variety of situations.
There are six dial variants, each available on a choice of black or brown straps for a total of 12 references. Those six options are split between three standard options and three full lume versions: black, light blue, blue, lume orange, lume blue, and lume green. They feature a very clean display with Arabic numeral hour markers wrapped inside a railway track minute scale. The central hands are leaf shaped and there’s a borderless date window at 3 o’clock to complete the display.
Powering the time and date functions is the Sellita SW210-1, a manual winding calibre with a 42-hour power reserve. The absence of an automatic rotor is what allows for the reduced thickness of the case. It also lets you engage with the watch on a daily basis as you wind the watch via the knurled crown at 3 o’clock. Oceaneva also note that the SW210-1 has one of the lowest production stocks of Sellita’s movements, making its use by affordable microbrands comparatively rare.
Speaking of affordable, the Oceaneva Tempus Pure is available with a special pre-order pricing of £536, reduced from £1,418. Deliveries are expected at the end of October, making them a solid autumn purchase or perhaps even an early Christmas gift to yourself. They’re also exclusive, limited to just 50 pieces per variant. The value for money is pretty insane thanks to the combination of a Grade 5 titanium case, 200m water resistance and a Swiss manual-winding movement.
