Back in May, Oceaneva introduced the new 6000m Deep Marine Explorer VI Titanium, a serious specs monster with 6,000m water resistance rating and large titanium case at an amazing value. Given that each colourway was a limited edition of only 50 pieces, it was extremely exclusive in numbers if not price. Thankfully, for those who missed out, it’s back for a second series. Though again limited to 50 pieces per colourway meaning only 300 total will be available.
The basic formula here is identical to the original 6000m Deep Marine Explorer VI. The case measures a broad 44mm in diameter with an 18.2mm thickness that makes it sit tall on the wrist. Thankfully its titanium construction means that it’s surprisingly lightweight, the equivalent of a standard steel dive watch rather than feeling like a behemoth. Of course, the headline is that 6,000m water resistance rating, which puts it in competition with the ultra-deep dive watches from the likes of Rolex and Omega, such as the Planet Ocean.
While the fundamentals are the same, the second series features an aesthetic update in comparison to the original models. Gone are the wave dial textures and Damascus style bezels in favour of a cleaner design. Instead, we have nice black, ceramic bezels that are easy to read and fumé gradient dials in one of six colours. Those options are mint, white, coral, purple, blue, yellow. Due to the smokiness of the gradient, they appear a touch darker than those colours might suggest on paper. For example, the mint is much more of a teal.
A further visual update is the alternative hour markers that have been used. The original series used a classic combination of circle, rectangle and triangle indexes paired with Mercedes style hands paying homage to legendary watches like the Rolex Submariner. The 6000m Deep Marine Explorer VI Titanium second series instead uses arrow hands paired with wedge-shaped indexes, paying tribute to models like the Omega Sea Master Aqua Terra. Oceaneva has always worn its inspirations on its sleeves.
Powering the watch is the Sellita SW200 automatic movement with 38-hour power reserve. A staple of the world of accessible watch design. It has somewhat started to fall out of fashion due to its lower specs compared to the updated versions of Sellita’s movements but remains one of the most widespread Swiss-made calibres. It’s also a key part in how Oceaneva are able to offer the watch at such impressive value.
Speaking of which, the 6000m Deep Marine Explorer VI Titanium second series is priced at £3,035 with a special pre-order price of just £607. For a 6,000m dive watch that’s pretty mad. As briefly mentioned earlier, each of the colours is limited to 50 pieces, making for a total edition of 300 pieces.
