The Tsuyosa burst onto the scene in a big way back in 2023, but earlier this year it returned to headlines when a smaller, svelter 37mm version was launched perfectly timed with increased interest in smaller diameter watches. It’s a collection that balances an accessible price tag with 1980s inspired integrated sports watch design and bright, colourful dials. Joining the lineup now is a new limited edition that adds a sense of luxury to the piece with gold coloured accents, the Citizen Tsuyosa 37mm Black Fumé Limited Edition.
Jumping straight to the dial, it’s black with a gradient fumé dial. It’s also a proper fumé design, meaning it has a grainy texture that allows the piece to have spots of highlighted colour that create the smoky appearance – fumé, of course, translating to smoke. For this limited edition that black dial is paired with gold-coloured accents across the central hands, bar indexes and minute scale. It’s just enough of a hint of luxury to make the watch feel special compared to other Tsuyosas without being obnoxious.

It’s a very smart display, housed in the equally smart 37mm steel case with integrated bracelet. It has a polished bezel that sits atop the main case body which is wide and flat in classic 1980s style with brushed finishing across its flanks. It leads into a three-link steel bracelet with those typical Jubilee style, highly curved links.

Inside is the Citizen calibre 8210 with 42-hour power reserve. A time and date movement that has its date window emphasised by a cyclops lens. A solid movement that does everything it needs to at this price point. That price point being £299, truly impulse buy levels of accessibility. Also, while they call it a limited edition, with 8,000 pieces available it’s not exactly scarce.
