The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso has without question earned its position at the pinnacle of stylish watches. It was the original luxury sports watch, designed as it was for polo, before Gerald Genta came along and redefined that term. Since then, it has seen numerous alterations and developments over the year including haute horology versions such as the Hybris Mechanica and this, the new Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon in pink gold.

The Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon has been around for a little while now, the calibre 847 at its heart was first used in 2018, but seeing fresh interpretations is always a pleasure. This edition reimagines it in a pink gold case measuring 45.5mm x 27.4mm x 9.15mm with the characteristic rectangular shape. Pink gold has a warmer tone to it than other types of precious metal, giving the case a softer appearance compared to its predecessors.

However, none of the design’s signature Art Deco sharpness has been lost thanks to a sunray brushed dial in silver. Of course, the lower portion of the dial is occupied by the titular tourbillon, which is visible on both sides of the reversible dial, giving a great view of the mechanism from multiple angles.
The secondary face also features a second time zone complication with a black dial and a day/night indicator showing images of the sun and moon. It’s also the more extravagantly decorated of the two faces with a partially skeletonised display and Clous de Paris guilloché.

While the fresh colour combinations and materials are nice, it’s the movement that still takes pride of place with this release. It might only have a 38-hour power reserve but that’s to be expected of a tourbillon model, since tourbillons tend to drain the reserve pretty severely, plus the way that the tourbillon has been crafted is amazing. Tourbillons are typically quite tall mechanisms, increasing the thickness of a watch. However, given the thinness of the Reverso and the fact that the main body of the watch had to be reversible with the tourbillon visible from both sides, special alterations had to be made.

They removed the traditional upper bridge in favour of a ball bearing connection and attached the balance wheel to the middle of the tourbillon, reducing the total height. Additionally, because there is no cage, JLC created an S shaped balance spring that connects the centre of the tourbillon to the balance wheel without interfering with any of the components.

Naturally, between the precious materials and haute horology movement, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon in pink gold is price on request. While there’s nothing particularly revelatory here, it’s a beautiful rendition of one of JLC’s modern icons is always welcome.
