Zodiac can be relied upon to create some of the coolest dive watches around. Whether that’s through intriguing use of colour and materials on the 140th Anniversary Super Sea Wolf or stealthy designs with unique twists such as the new Zodiac Left Hand Drive Pro-Diver GMT that has been released in conjunction with James Porter & Son.
Structurally, the new piece has a 42mm diameter case made from stainless steel with a black DLC coating for both a stealthy look and extreme scratch resistance. The case also has a solid 300m water resistance, making for a supremely practical, professional-standard diver.

Another quality of underwater life feature is the left-hand crown, designed to prevent the it from digging into the back of your hand and impairing your range of movement in the water, a similar concept to the ZRC Grand Fonds 300. Coincidentally, it also makes the watch easier to adjust and use for people who wear their watches on the right hand.

Zodiac have launched dive watch GMTs before like the Super Sea Wolf GMT, but the new Left Hand Drive Pro-Diver model features some key design differences, especially on its dial.
First and foremost, the 24-hour GMT scale has been moved from the bezel to the outer edge of the dial, which leaves space on the bezel for an actual diving scale. The dial also features the Pro-Diver style of triangular indexes and hands with the small orange hand as the GMT indicator.

Beneath the surface is the Soprod C125 automatic GMT movement with a 42-hour power reserve. Soprod are a solid alternative to other Swiss calibre manufactures like Sellita and create movements to order.
What that means is that Soprod movements are often designed specifically for a single watch and subsequently released for any watchmaker to use. In this case, the C125 was originally created for the Oak & Oscar Sandford but can now be found in a variety of watches.

In the UK, the Zodiac Left Hand Drive Pro-Diver GMT is available exclusively from James Porter & Son. Meanwhile, over in the US, the exclusive retailer is Huckberry. The watch is being produced in a limited edition of 282 pieces at a price of £2,299, which reflects the watch’s exclusivity, technical DLC case, solid movement and cool styling. While I personally prefer Zodiac’s more colourful designs, there’s a lot to love here.
