This Friday the sequel to the highest grossing movie of all time will be hitting cinemas – Avatar: The Way of Water. Early reviews are already emerging and it promises to be a visual spectacle like no other. Let’s just hope that the plot holds up a little better than the 2009 original. Either way, Citizen are honouring the release with three new Eco-Drive watches inspired by Avatar’s Pandora, thematically dubbed the Mens Wave, Ladies Tree of Souls and Unisex Wave.
Avatar x Citizen Eco-Drive Collection Men’s Wave
The Mens Wave is the most aesthetically refined of the trio despite also being the most complex in terms of functionality. It has a big, 45mm stainless steel case with angular surfaces and built-up crown guards. However, the focal point is dead centre where a Leonpteryx, one of the franchise’s iconic beasts, is depicted. The creature flies above a deep blue dial that represents the watery environment of the second film. The watch has an additional date window at 3 o’clock as well as a two-tone minute scale serving as day/night indication.
Avatar x Citizen Collection Ladies Tree of Souls
Next is the Tree of Souls, which has a 37mm stainless steel case coated in black IP. The design is a lot more ethereal with a purple background showing the jellyfish-like plants around the timepiece’s Pandoran namesake. It also has crystal hour markers at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock.
Avatar x Citizen Collection Unisex Wave
Lastly, there’s the Unisex Wave with a 42mm steel case and pronounced, arching lugs. It’s the most dynamic of the three as its dial bears a full scene rather than a single creature. It shows two Na’vi riding on their beasts above the ocean with the shoreline in the background. It’s bright, bold and somewhat psychedelic, capturing the core visual spectacle of the film.

All three watches are part of the Eco-Drive collection, meaning their quartz movements are light powered. As such, they never need battery replacements, making them incredibly efficient and eco-friendly.
Both Wave editions of the Avatar x Citizen Eco-Drive collection are priced at £249 while the Tree of Souls version is slightly less at £229. At those prices, all three are very accessible and offer a fun way to commemorate what’s sure to be one of the standout films of the year.
