The story of Omega’s new Ultra Deep collection started back in 2019 when they create a unique watch that journeyed into the depths of the Mariana Trench. Now though, in 2022, that concept is being made accessible to the public in four versions with 6000m water resistance called the Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Collection.
Of the four watches that make up the collection, one has a titanium case and the other three are made from “O-MEGASTEEL”, a new high performance alloy from Omega. O-MEGASTEEL is twice as durable and 40% more scratch resistant (300 Vickers) than conventional steels used in watchmaking, as well as being shinier, whiter and more corrosion resistant. However, all four have the same dimensions and specifications of 45.5mm diameter, chunky 18.12mm height and water resistance to 6000m. Safe to say that these are watches you can’t slip under your cuff.

Stylistically, all four are striking. The titanium model’s case is that classic almost slate-like grey of the material and it has a dial and bezel to match. Its bezel has a unidirectional rotation with 60-minute diving scale, as you’d expect. The watch’s darker tones are paired with bright blue numerals and a gradient blue seconds hand, the same shade of blue is found on the NATO strap.
As for the O-MEGASTEEL offerings, there’s a gradient blue dial version with black ceramic bezel, a gradient grey one with bright orange bezel and finally a white and electric blue version. All of the watches have white gold hands coated with SuperLuminova, blue emission for the hours and seconds and green for the minutes. Similarly, the indexes and bezel dot are also lumed, which is probably obvious for a watch at home 6000m below sea-level.

Inside, all four of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deeps house the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8912. It has automatic winding, a 60-hour power reserve thanks to two barrels, 15,000 gauss magnetic resistance, a silicon balance spring and an Omega free-sprung balance. All of which is certainly helpful in a saturation diving environment.
The three O-MEGASTEEL versions are available on rubber straps or O-MEGASTEEL bracelets at £10,060 on strap and £10,350 on bracelet. The titanium version is slightly more at £11,030 and is only available on NATO. Still, this is one 10k watch that you don’t have to worry about when you accidentally drop it in the villa pool.
