Oceaneva are continuing with their quest to revolutionise the ultra-deep dive watch with the launch of the new Deep Marine Explorer VI WorldTime 6000m Automatic Grade 5 Titanium GMT. While deep divers were once exceptional because of their incredible water resistance ratings, Oceaneva say that isn’t enough and they should still be practical tools in daily life. That’s why they created the first 6000m watch with a power reserve indicator and now the first 6000m diver with a world time function.
The focus of this watch is the combination of the Deep Marine Explorer VI case with a world time function for the first time – which is also the first time a world timer has been used on an ultra-deep diver ever. Conceptually, it’s actually a combination that makes sense. If you are visiting the world’s most legendary diving spots (especially if you are skilled enough to actually make use of that extreme depth rating) then you’ll be travelling a lot – so a complication that keeps track of time zones has a practical value. Or if you are someone who prefers to keep their feet firmly on land, it provides additional utility beyond the visual aesthetic of an oversize diver.
The world time complication itself features an atlas style motif in the centre of the dial, which is surrounded by a 24-hour scale. Depending on the specific colour scheme, the 24-hour scale is either monocolour or two-tone to show day and night. That 24-hour scale is pointed to by a GMT hand, allowing you to keep track of a specific time zone, such as home time while you are away on travels. That then pairs with a peripheral ring of 24 important cities around the world to allow you to easily calculate the time anywhere on Earth at a glance – functionally displaying every time zone simultaneously.
There are 10 colourways of the Deep Marine Explorer VI WorldTime 6000m Automatic being launched. There are four standard versions with day/night GMT scales, two standard versions with monocolour GMT scales and then four full lume versions (Grade A Super-LumiNova), split two and two between mono and two-tone scales. The base colours include black, green, white, blue and light blue. Each of the 10 colourways is limited to 50 pieces.
The base model here is the Deep Marine Explorer VI, featuring a large 44mm diameter x 19.4mm thick case made from Grade 5 titanium. The high strength to density ratio of titanium gives excellent lightweight properties, which means that the Deep Marine Explorer VI is comfortable to wear for long periods of time despite its size. Both in and out of the water. A 120-click dive timer bezel also gives it that necessary aquatic utility.
Housed inside the watch’s fortress of a case is the Miyota 9075 automatic GMT movement. It’s the Japanese manufacture’s premium grade GMT movement with 42-hour power reserve. It’s also a ‘true’ GMT, which means the hour hand can be jumped in intervals of one hour to make adjusting the local time zone easy without having to reset the entire watch – ideal for people who hop time zones regularly.
For pricing, the Oceaneva Deep Marine Explorer VI WorldTime 6000m Automatic is £2,933 with a pre-sale pricing of just £640.
