Limited editions are cool. They’re an excuse for brands – especially watchmakers – to do something that their mainline collections just aren’t ready for. They also happen to be the most solid investments out there and as such next to impossible to get hold of. At least, that goes for the ones that are actually worth adding to your collection.
Often it has nothing to do with how much these things cost. We’ve all been there, seeing a painfully cool piece online and calling your local retailer seconds after the news has broken, only to find out that all 50 pieces have been sold. Time and again it turns out that if you’re not in the know, that if you’re not on all the right lists, you don’t have a chance.

It’s a relatively simple concept and one that’s not been done before. But why? A good part of the answer is that founder Romane Howsam isn’t your usual luxury CEO. At 9 she bought her first domain; midway through her gap year she started taking her entrepreneurial ideas seriously and now, at the grand old age of 21, she’s ready to launch what promises to be one of the most disruptive platforms in luxury. It’s enough to make us feel incredibly old.
Even then, Lymited is more than just a marketplace with a few seriously exclusive items. Rather than adding new items as and when they become available, the platform offers seasonally-curated selections of items, all of which play into a specific overarching theme.
It’s still early days and time will tell what those themes are for the initial collection, but there are already some incredible items we know will be available, the first of which is a one-off custom Hermes Kelly bag, originally made for a VIP client. For the sneakerheads out there, Nike’s Air Max 1 Parra will be available at launch, a pair designed exclusively for friends and family of Nike and Parra. It’s a bold design with a few unusual details, they’re the kind of kicks that even dedicated collectors might not have seen before, let alone added to their collection.
