When Tudor released the Black Bay GMT earlier in the year it raised a few eyebrows. How dare Rolex’s little sister seemingly attempt to take the crown? There’s just one problem with that line of thought: Tudor’s newest Black Bay is just as cool. I’m not saying it replaces a vintage Pepsi-Cola, but it’s not too far off. Either way, it’s a watch worth matching your outfit to, and not the other way around.
A great autumnal layering piece is Anderson & Sheppard’s Boat Builder Jumper, which has a lovely character with a slightly chunky weight to it. Adding a mid-layer piece such as the Driving Gilet by Connolly will not only give an extra layer of warmth, but smarten up your look, heading more towards coastal preppy than fisherman. Navy or blue complement the red and blue on the Black Bay GMTs bezel. That said, an off-white or ecru knitted option works tonally with the ‘Terra di Siena’ brown leather strap.
In this heavily knitwear outfit, it would be best to go light in the outerwear, such as Loro Piana’s Windjersey Bomber, which is treated with their Storm System technology. It’s light, waterproof and so, so comfortable. Trouser-wise you can’t go wrong with mid-weight flannels. You might be afforded some liberty to wear jeans, seeing as the Tudor isn’t exactly dressy, but I say keep an eye on the heritage side and stay classic. Keeping with the nautical theme, Paraboot’s Malo deck shoe is the perfect final flourish.
