It’s impossible to overstate just how important a tailor Henry Poole is. The Savile Row stalwart isn’t just the tailor to the stars but they created the modern Tuxedo! That was all the way back in the mid-1800s and the shop has remained pretty much the same since. Except of course that now they have launched sneakers.
Pairing up with adidas Originals, Henry Poole has revealed two pairs of sneakers for the sartorially savvy to salivate over. Both shoes take the eighties-style NMD as their base, incorporating elements of traditional bespoke tailoring to set the limited editions apart.
The first to launch this month is the NMD XR1, an evening sneaker if ever there was one. The midnight blue with black and white trim is a direct riff on a Henry Poole dinner suit and one of the few sneakers that could ever be worn with one.
The second pair, which is set to launch in August, is inspired by Henry Poole’s famous flannel suits. The upper of the NMD R2 uses chalk-stripe fabric with a dash of dandyish claret and a Cundey Weave lining in red – the signature lining of a Henry Poole suit.
The old traditionalists on The Row may gasp in horror at the idea of pairing sneakers with one of their suits – and from such an esteemed establishment at Henry Poole no less! – but the pair of limited editions isn’t for them. For £150 a pair however, they could well be for you.
The adidas Originals x Henry Poole NMD XR1 and NMD R2 will both be launching online on Friday 21st July and 4th August (respectively) and will be available exclusively at: www.size.co.uk
