It’s a TV when it’s switched on, and a beautifully-framed piece of wall-hanging contemporary art when it’s off. Samsung has teamed up with designer Yves Béhar to create The Frame, re-imagining the humble television as tech that “disappears in the décor.” “In our smaller homes and apartments, when a television is off, its black square takes up valuable real estate,” explains Béhar. So, rather than designing a product that only comes to life when watching entertainment, the designer began to think about a display that offers new inspiration.
The Samsung Frame can be framed with different materials so that it blends into the home decor. When it’s not streaming Netflix or Amazon, the display reverts to ‘Art Mode’, allowing users to display either a series of bespoke art images or their own family photos.
