We all know about Omega’s space credentials, after all the Speedmaster was the first watch to make it to the moon. Now they are only furthering their reputation as a brand promoting scientific endeavour by collaborating with the Starmus Science Festival. Courtesy of the brand, the three winners of the Steven Hawking Medal for Science Communication will be presented with a stunning 18k yellow gold Omega Speedmaster model.
Differing from the usual “Moonwatch”, the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Chronograph Starmus Science Award Gold is covered in lashings of gold where steel would usually lay and comes with an ornately engraved caseback depicting the slightly surreal scene of the first moonwalk, with the guitar of Queen’s Brian May rising from the horizon. The reason for this is because May is, in fact, one of the festivals founders and even has a doctorate in astrophysics.
Partnerships and space aside, this is a very on-trend timepiece, with the black dial, bezel and strap perfectly complementing the new gold finish. We’re just wishing we could actually get our hands on one!
