Oceaneva Release Dodeca-Trench 6,000M Grade 5 Titanium GMT Dive Watch

Oceaneva Dodeca-Trench 6000m Grade 5 Titanium

Oceaneva are continuing their quest to offer some of the most insane value for money in the watch industry with the release of the Dodeca-Trench. A new, all-purpose tool watch with a sporty design that is equally at home in the aquatic depths thanks to its 6,000m water resistance or time zone hopping aboard an airplane with its 24-hour second time zone bezel. All wrapped in a Grade 5 Titanium case.

Starting with the case, it is uncompromising in its proportions at a 44mm diameter and 18.95mm thickness. While that might sound absurd on paper, it’s necessary to maintain the watch’s 6,000m water resistance. Water resistance is typically measured in pressure (ATM or bar), because the watch needs to withstand the force of the water pushing in on it and it’s simple logic that a bigger watch is better at withstanding pressure. That’s because bigger dimensions mean a watch can have thicker walls that are harder to bend or deform. It’s the same story behind the 6mm thick, domed sapphire crystal.

With a watch of this size, wearability is obviously an important consideration. That’s why Oceaneva has opted for Grade 5 titanium for the material. Titanium has a superior strength to density ratio compared to stainless steel, meaning that you can achieve the same degree of strength and resilience at a fraction of the weight – titanium is 45% lighter than steel. It also gives the watch a darker grey tone and a slight industrial vibe from the brushed finishing.

For the dial, the Oceaneva Dodeca-Trench features a horizontal wave texture in a choice of 10 colours: orange, red, mint (turquoise), salmon, blue, yellow, white, black, purple and green. Each is paired with black or grey hour markers in triangular shapes that are coated with lume to provide a good level of contrast. The central hour, minute and seconds hands are in the same colour as the hour markers while the 24-hour GMT hand is in a tertiary colour for yet more contrast. That GMT hand points at the 24-hour bi-directional rotating bezel (with black ceramic insert) to display multiple time zones simultaneously.

Powering the GMT display is the Miyota 9075 automatic calibre. It’s a true GMT movement, which means that the 12-hour hand can be adjusted separately to the rest of the display, allowing you to change the local time zone without needing to reset the entire watch. This lets you cross the border between time zones nice and conveniently.

The Oceaneva Dodeca-Trench is limited to 50 pieces per colour at a pre-order price of £605 and a standard price of £3,024. If you’re interested in specs like water resistance per £1 spent, then Oceaneva’s deep divers beat anything by Rolex or Omega, and no other brand is pairing that level of resilience with additional complications like a GMT.
