Nomos Celebrates ‘A Century Of Bauhaus’ with Three Tangente Limited Editions

NOMOS Tangente - A Century Of Bauhaus

When you hear Bauhaus two things come to mind: functionalist architecture and Nomos Glashutte. The German watchmaker is inseparable from the pared-back, essentials-only design school that turns 100 this year. You’re not going to be all that surprised what Nomos has done to commemorate the anniversary either: a limited edition watch.

Well, watches. Limited editions aren’t usually part of Nomos’ horological vocabulary but in this case they’ve created an entire capsule collection of nine new Tangente models, each limited to just 100 pieces worldwide.

They’ve not gone crazy though; they don’t have different complications, case shapes or anything too intense. Instead, Nomos is offering their definitive Bauhaus watch in three different colour variations, each of which is in three case sizes: 38mm, 35mm and a diminutive 33mm.

Like any good piece of Bauhaus, there’s not a huge amount to say about the design of the Tangente limited editions. They are pure, clean and differentiated by no more than a single ring of colour in blue, red or yellow. They are characterised by simplicity and clarity, from the elegant shape of the case to the easily-readable, paper-coloured dial. They could be ripped directly from the sketches of Bauhaus maestro Paul Klee.

Inside they have the same Alpha in-house hand-wound movement that Nomos has been perfecting for years, complete with precise German engineering and reliability. It’s where you’ll find the only bit of embellishment in the entire watch other than the limited edition stamp: Glashutte’s signature stripes.

Given that Nomos are pretty good value normally, that’s almost too good to resist. We certainly won’t be; I very much have my eye on the red.
