The new kid on the block, FD Hermann, is one to watch. The brand is the brainchild of Daniel Hermann, who has taken a relatively simple idea and made it an ultra luxurious reality. Aged eight, Geneva-born Daniel asked of a family friend why they had taken to wearing their watch sideways, with the face pointing the ‘wrong’ way. The answer? It was easier to see the time.

Since the age of eight Daniel Hermann had a vision of his own form of timepiece.
It stayed with Daniel, and in 2014 he began to develop his own timepiece that could be worn on the lateral side of the wrist. The first prototype of the Lateral Timekeeper appeared on the 1st June 2017 and is completely Swiss-made – the FD2603 movement is manufactured in Fleurier, all exterior components in Le Noirmont and the strap and rest of the process takes place in Geneva.

FD Hermann Lateral Timekeeper (from approximately £24,000)
There are three versions available, with one unique piece in titanium, one in titanium DLC black and three in carbon fibre. All the vital details have been carefully considered, from the mechanical with manual winding skeleton calibre to the platinum sanded bridges and useful 80 hours of power reserve. The strap itself is appealingly simple: a single watch strap, it stretches around the entire wrist and can be discreetly adjusted to a millimetre. It can be in any material so desired, from crocodile to ostrich and nubuck. As a whole, the watch is comfortable to wear, thanks to the ultralight titanium or carbon fibre which won’t leave you feeling constrained; fdhermann.ch
