I really wish Montblanc would do something to stop me loving everything they release. They almost managed it with the Summit until I got that on my wrist. Alas, with the 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Limited Edition 100 they’re really twisting the knife.
Another tribute to the Minerva manufacture that now boasts Montblanc signage, this version of the 1858 is contemporary-classic in the best sense. The case – and monopusher chronograph – are inspired directly by Minerva pieces of old; the bronze case on the other hand is very much 2017. Finish with a salmon dial and there you have it – vintage-inspired, flawlessly modern.
Limited to 100 pieces worldwide… all I can say is that I want one, far, far too much. Price: $27,500; montblanc.com
