McIntosh’s 81-Speaker XRT2.1K

McIntosh’s 81-Speaker XRT2.1K

How many speakers is too many? According to New York audio specialist McIntosh the sky’s the limit, at least if their new 81-driver XRT2.1K loudspeaker is anything to go by. A revamp of the 11-year old XRT2Ks, they replace the usual small number of large drivers for a vast array of smaller ones.

That combination is (and bear with us here) six long-throw woofers, two low-frequency midranges, 28 high-frequency midranges and 45 tweeters. The result is more responsiveness and a more even distribution of sound whether you’re close-up or far away. If that seems like a lot to take in, just remember this: for McIntosh, more = better.

Price (per pair): £137,500
