There’s your everyday sipping whisky, the occasional rare dram and then those that come along once in a lifetime. If you’re not quick, The Macallan Classic Cut might well be the latter. A one-off, high-proof whisky that plays around with the core characteristics of the distiller, only 90,000 bottles of the limited edition will ever be released.
A little lighter in colour and sherry notes, the Classic Cut comes without an age statement, meaning it’s an undisclosed mix of different ages of whisky. This gives master whisky maker Bob Dalgarno more room to work in, creating a whisky that’s at once pure Macallan and something new, something laced with vanilla, toffee, sweet ginger, and oak.
90,000 may seem a lot now, but given the prestige of The Macallan, if you don’t want this becoming a once-in-a-lifetime dram you’d best stock up.
