1. Yves Behar + Kodak Super 8

Yves Behar + Kodak Super 8

First vinyl records, then Polaroid cameras… now Super 8 film is making a comeback. Teaming up with designer Yves Behar, Kodak has re-launched its iconic Super 8 film camera with a 21st century design that combines analogue and digital technologies compete with an LCD monitor, an SD card (for recording audio with an external mic) and even an HDMI port for people that want to monitor footage on the big screen.

Behar’s camera is a simplified, boxy and brutalised version of original Kodak models, apparently intended for the delight of the world’s burgeoning, lo-fi/analogue-obsessed, hipster community. “Just as vinyl is making a comeback in music, film is being embraced by more and more amateur and professional filmmakers who appreciate its subtle, rich qualities,” said Eastman Kodak CEO Jeff Clarke. “The new Kodak Super 8 camera draws on our past, while showing a vision for our future.”

2. Zaha Hadid Clutch Bag

Zaha Hadid Clutch Bag

Perrin Paris, the French accessories house founded in 1893 and renowned for its elegant clutch bags, was busy working on a collaborative project with architect Zaha Hadid around her untimely death in 2016. A year later, Perrin Paris has launched a small capsule collection of bags featuring Hadid’s take on the brand’s distinctive, ergonomic clasps – a bold trio of spatial metal forms that fit the hand like a shiny glove and walk the line between 3D jewellery and decorative engineering.

3. Avegant Glyph

Avegant Glyph

They look like regular, over-the-ears cans but pull the Avegant headphone cinema’s headband down over your eyes and the inside reveals Retinal Imaging Technology that mimics natural eyesight through LED projection onto millions of microscopic mirrors. Watch movies, stream video clips or indulge in a round of shoot ’em up gaming without the need for a screen. Image clarity is reported to be immersive, super lifelike and hardly distinguishable from viewing the natural world. A lot less nerdy looking than a pair of those Oculus Rift things as well.

4. Lexus Speedboat

Lexus Speedboat

Styled by Lexus designers and built by Marquis Yachts in the USA, the 42’ Lexus Sport Yacht one-off concept was unveiled at a Miami Beach launch earlier this year. Pointy and shark-like, the boat’s hull is made of the same lightweight carbon-fibre- reinforced plastic that Lexus used on its LFA super car, while its twin, V8 engines also power Lexus’s new LC 500 coupe. The forward passenger cabin is inviting in luxurious Lexus leather with wood and glass details. Sofa seating for six with a table and air conditioning create a comfortable environment for intimate entertaining. The galley features a two-burner stove, sink and under-counter refrigerator. Who said Lexus was boring?
