It wasn’t too long ago that personal flight seemed like the wishful thinking of animators working on the Jetsons, but thanks to Kitty Hawk it’s now a very real prospect. It’s not a Rocketeer-style jetpack or an Iron Man suit, but the propeller-powered ultra-light recreation vehicle is our first step on that exciting road.
Easy-to-use is an understatement with the Kitty Hawk Flyer. The Flyer is essentially a large drone that you can sit in. It needs no qualifications whatsoever (which is almost a little worrying) and the controls are simple enough to be picked up in next to no time. It’s also fully electric so you can just charge and fly.
Obviously, it’s not the kind of thing you’ll see sedately gliding over city streets – it’s designed for use over water and hovers up to ten feet up – but it’s still a blast. Unfortunately, there’s no release date yet, but you can try it out at Kitty Hawk’s Vegas test lake and, once you’re hooked, preorder here.
