It’s been a couple years since it first made its presence known, but the 20-second Tempograph is still one of Louis Moinet’s most stellar pieces, particularly in its latest incarnation.
Decidedly modern as the watch is, it’s case is actually historic; it comes directly from the Memoris collection, the first chronograph ever made. It’s been made a little smaller – 44mm down from 46 – and reworked for the new movement, but it’s origins are still there.
That movement is a masterpiece. Not that we’d expect anything else from Louis Moinet by this point. The retrograde 20-second counter is a magnificent piece of work, made all the more so by the new black or (preferably) blue surround.
This certainly isn’t an entirely new watch from Louis Moinet, but it is a much-needed evolution of a piece that’s been on our wishlist for two years now. It doesn’t need it, but it’s the thought that counts.
