The CHF 1 Million Emperador Humidor From Imperiali Geneve

The ultimate cigar smoker’s accessory for when money is no object…

Imperiali Geneve Emperador Humidor

Being neck-deep in the world of haute horology we’re used to things being taken to unnecessary extremes. How many directions does a tourbillion actually need to spin anyway? That said even we were taken aback when we saw firsthand the most extreme humidor in the world: the Emperador.

Let’s be fair, with a name like that it was always going to be something special. Anything less than spectacular would have been disappointing and the Emperador was anything but. Designed by the two-man dynamo behind Imperiali Genève, the monolithic flagship creation takes cigar smoking to the next level – as it should for the cool sum of a million Swiss francs.

To call the Emperador a humidor doesn’t say nearly enough, though that is of course its main function. Indeed the various glass tubes holding your cigars can be set to a specific temperature and humidity, allowing you to keep any type of torpedo in perfect condition. The exact details can be read off three mechanical hands and altered just as easily.

The best part is that the system is self-regulating and will carry on doing its job without intervention and regardless of outside interference. That in itself is a remarkable feat. Even the smallest disruption can ruin something as delicate as a cigar and not needing to worry about adding a drop of water or checking the temperature on a daily basis is a weight of the mind of any true cigar aficionado.

But apparently that wasn’t quite enough for Imperiali Genève, not by a long shot. Alongside the humidor itself they have equipped the chest with all the accessories you could need: an ash tray, a lighter and a cutter. High-tech as the first two are however, it’s the cutter that stands apart.

For one it uses a laser to accurately show just where the razor-sharp blades will cut. If you prefer to avoid tobacco flakes in your mouth where possible, the device can also perforate rather than cut, allowing an entirely different smoking experience.

Then there’s the tourbillion. That’s right, on top of everything else Imperiali Geneve has decided to incorporate the archetypal high complication into the lid of the Emperador. There’s little reason for it other than to remind you just how many hour you while away lingering on a grand cru cigar. Still, that doesn’t stop the mechanism being captivating of course, especially with the mechanics are in full view.

On one hand a glossy black and gold monstrosity, on the other a phenomenal piece of overt luxury, there’s nothing quite like the Emperador. Whether you appreciate the fine details and sumptuous materials or are put off by its sheer extravagance, the bottom line is a surprisingly simple one. It works – better than any other humidor in the world. For a cigar collector, that’s all that really matters.
