Honesty is the best policy. At least, that’s what the Glenrothes is hoping to be the case because 12th September the prestige Scotch whisky is letting drinkers set the price.
The Glenrothes Honesty Bar will be making its way for one night only to a subterranean bar in Shoreditch for a night of cocktails, tastings and some seriously good drams, including their stunning 25-year-old.
Given that a single bottle of the 25 retails for £375, you’d expect them to be keeping a close eye on the coffers, but this is an honesty bar. You pay what you think the drinks are worth. Now, granted after a few glasses of whisky the truth usually comes pouring out but it’s the chance to sample some great whisky without breaking the bank too hard. Or, if we’re being naïve, showing your appreciation above and beyond.
Even if it was usual prices though the Glenrothes Honest Bar would be worth a visit. Held at Shoreditch’s TT Liquor, the dark, underground and impossibly cool bar will be an experience unto itself. Throw in some tastings with whisky experts and some unique cocktails, it’s a full-on Scotch extravaganza.
Try the three cocktails tailor-made for the occasion alongside some (much-needed) stomach liners from Scottish foodies Mac & Wilde or stop in for a quick dram of something special; you can decide how you want to enjoy the pop-up in the same way you can decide how much its worth to you.
Just don’t be surprised if you get some seriously hard looks if you try to skip out entirely.
Oh and if that’s whetted your appetite for a cocktail or two, check out our favourite whisky cocktails to make at home here. You don’t need a mixology certificate or even a muddler, just an appreciation of Scotland’s biggest export.
