Bell & Ross Launch BR 05 Green Gold with Luxurious New Colourway

Logic tells us that if you take one popular thing and combine it with another, the result will be popular too – it worked with The Avengers. Bell & Ross are trying the formula for themselves by taking their luxurious rose gold BR 05 and combining it with a green dial, creating the new BR 05 Green Gold.

Structurally, it’s identical to the existing BR 05 rose gold collection with a 40mm case with Bell & Ross’ signature rounded square design with a pronounced bezel. It follows strongly in the design ethos of Genta’s sports luxe icons like the Nautilus and Royal Oak. While steel is the premier material for watches like this, the added luxuriousness of gold suits them just as well.

Paired with the new green dial it’s even more striking. It’s quite a dark shade of green but due to the shine of the sunray brushed finish, it has a brighter lustre than it first appears. It creates a contrast between the green and the red-ish tone of the gold that is certainly eye-catching. Although I wonder if going for more complementary tones might create a more cohesive aesthetic, for example the green and yellow gold of the Montblanc 1858 Split-Seconds Chronograph.

Below the surface is the BR-CAL.321, an automatic movement based on the Sellita SW300-1 a, which has a 38-hour power reserve. Power reserve is by no means the be all and end all of a watch’s movement but considering that the BR 05 Green Gold is £18,900 on green leather strap or £28,400 on matching gold bracelet, it’s understandable if you’d like the calibre to give a little extra. Although, the luxury materials go a long way to understanding the price.

Ultimately, I think the new combo of green and rose gold works well for the BR 05. However, the BR 05 is such a strong collection in Bell & Ross’ range that there are plenty of alternative models that are just as, if not more, stylish.
