An Evening of Exceptional Watches at Christie’s New York is split into a live auction, which took place on 13 June, and online auctions, the second part of which finishes on 12 July. Highlights include an exceptionally rare Rolex ‘James Bond’ Submariner (estimated at $500,000 – $1,000,000) and a coveted Reference 6263 ‘Paul Newman Panda’ chronograph wristwatch (estimated at $500,000 – $1,000,000).
Some luxury brands may be suffering, but auction watches are booming – Sotheby’s recent Important Watches New York auction achieved $9.1 million, the highest total since 2016. Highlights included a Frères Rochat pair of four-colour gold and pearl singing bird snuff boxes, a Rolex ‘Paul Newman’ Daytona Ref 6241, an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore and a Richard Mille RM008.
