The term may get bandied around rather a lot, but let’s all be in agreement here – Yvan Arpa, the man behind ArtyA, is a legend. Avant-garde, provocative and intelligent, his creations all come from his own independent manufacture in Geneva. In the past he has played with concepts and materials with thrilling results, experimenting with butterfly wings, dinosaur dung and cases struck by lightning, to name just a few. This new piece is an example of his ingenuity.

The Sun Tourbillon is one-of-a-kind – a flying tourbillon in a patented guitar-shaped case, it squeezes the mechanism inside into an X-shape, leaving the rest of the face totally transparent. The small seconds, at 6 o’clock, seems to hover in thin air, while opposite, at 12 o’clock, the barrel with a wholly new bridge resides. It’s a thing of beauty.
