If there’s one thing every sports movie ever committed to film has taught us, it’s the power of a montage. The piecing together of smaller clips, preferably over a fist-pumping soundtrack and a protagonist coming to grips with… whatever they need to get to grips with, is a powerful tool in the right hands.
Taking that mantle upon themselves, Montage watches is doing much the same for cool, retro horology that the steps to the Philadelphia Museum of Art did for Rocky: showing just what an underdog can do.

After launching their first quartz dress watch on Kickstarter back in 2017, Montage has gone from strength to strength, expanding their portfolio of old-school designs and classically-inspired timepieces. Now they have a protagonist of their very own in the handsome Prestige collection.
With Fume dials taken from the colours of nature – the green of the Aurora, ocean blue or autumn red – these elegant timepieces echo the design ethos of vintage watches with a modern twist. High-domed crystals echo older timepieces, while the minimal brushed finishing of the dials makes for distinctly contemporary face to the watch.

Inside you’ll not find a quartz movement anymore; like many a microbrand, what started with incredibly accessible battery-powered movements has progressed to using solid automatic numbers. In the case of the Prestige collection, that’s the ever-reliable Miyota 9015 Automatic.
Not that the use of an automatic has made Montage’s watches any less accessible of course; the Prestige comes in at a highly-affordable £193.54. With a full grain leather strap and scratch-resistant crystal, that’s a seriously competitive price.

Of course, being a microbrand is about being creative and Montage is a brand that puts their collectors at the heart of their design ethos. They’re always collecting feedback to influence their next watches – so let them know what you think.
You can find their watches (and send them some feedback) at Montage Watches.
