Hamilton’s Jazzmaster might not have the cult following of the Elvis-approved Ventura or the pure militaristic style of the Khakis, but it’s certainly the watchmaker’s most diverse collection. It also has the worst name. Still, what the collection loses with a fundamentally awful moniker it makes up in style, at least when it comes to the three latest chronograph additions to the family.
The base design of the Jazzmaster has always been its strength. Steeped in the kind of golden era Americana of early Hollywood, the round shape and instantly-identifiable lugs allow it to fit any slot, be that quirky or elegant. The new chronographs are firmly on the latter end of that spectrum.

The three new dial variations are simple but appealing classic colourways, the first in white with bright rose gold indexes and hands. It’s the more glamorous of the three for sure and works nicely with the clean layout of the dial. The second is a little more casual in dark blue with sharp nickel indexes. It’s a little more of a professional, daily wearer. The final is the most pared-back in anthracite, nice and simple. Despite the classicism, both still have plenty of superluminova for low-light reading.

The only other variation between he watches is the strap; the white-dialled reference comes on a light tan number while the blue is more of a chocolate hue. The anthracite is matched to a dark grey strap. They’re all complimentary to the colourways and, in our opinion, superior in style to the strainless steel bracelet option.

Inside each is the solid H-21 automatic chronograph, operable via the lovely, tactile pushers. It’s got a 60-hour power reserve which, for a watch well under 2K is pretty damn fantastic. Indeed, as value propositions go, even by Hamilton’s standards the new Jazzmasters are impressive – versatile, handsome and pure 1920s chic.
