Introducing Omega Speedmaster #SpeedyTuesday Limited Edition “Ultraman”

Omega Speedmaster #SpeedyTuesday Limited Edition “Ultraman”First coined by owner of watch blog Fratello watches and Speedmaster addict Robert-Jan Broer, the hashtag #Speedytuesday is recognised by watch lovers all over Instagram. In 2017 Omega recognised the popularity of this grass-roots social media movement and decided to launch a limited run of re-designed Alaska III Moonwatch’s, named after the famous hashtag.

All 2,012 models of this limited edition sold out via Omega’s Instagram channel within a matter of minutes. Not a brand to miss a marketing opportunity today sees the launch of a new #speedytuesday limited edition. This model pays tribute to Omega’s popular 70’s Speedmaster Limited Edition “Ultraman”, which was originally designed to pay tribute to the Japanese sci-fi series Ultraman – You’ll probably recognise him from battling Godzilla in Japan’s giant monster genre Kaiju.

The watch references the original model with its vibrant orange, decoration the second hand, accents and stripe on its NATO strap. It also features the profile of Ultraman’s famous helmet on the chrono-second sub-dial and a 3 minute limit on the chrono minutes referencing Ultraman’s limited abilities. On the caseback there’s a nod to the famous hashtag while also paying homage to the original moon watch with the quote “Qualified by NASA for all manned space missions”.  Whether you’re old enough to remember the original watch or even have an idea who Ultraman is doesn’t really matter. It’s a great watch that is sure to sell out fast.
