In September Oris launched a new interpretation of their Big Crown Pointer Date partnership watch with Cervo Volante in a rich burgundy tone. However, that partnership model uses the slightly older Big Crown design with retro elements such as a coin-edge bezel and cathedral hands rather than the new, modern style of the 2025 collection revamp. Now, the burgundy dial is making the transition from one version of the Big Crown to the other with the introduction of the Big Crown Pointer Date Burgundy Ref. 01 754 7798 4038-07 8 20 06.
We first got hands-on with this watch at Geneva Watch Days earlier this year. At a 40mm diameter and 12mm thickness, it exactly matches the thickness of the 2025 collection. On the wrist it’s a good mid-size, not large enough to be unwieldy but also not small enough to feel dainty or delicate, which is what you want from a modern pilot’s watch.

As part of the 2025 update, the hands have been simplified to pencil shapes with a strip of lume down the centre for nighttime legibility. The Arabic numerals also feature a modern, angular typography with thicker lines to improve readability.
All of that is set against the backdrop of the new burgundy colour dial, which is one of the notable colour trends of watch design in 2026. Oris specifically call the shade oxblood red. A darker tone that contrasts with the brighter red of the pointer date hand’s triangular tip. It’s particularly nice to have another darker model in the modern Big Crown Pointer Date range, where the majority of colours are light or pastel.

Turning the watch over reveals the exhibition caseback through which you can see the Oris 754 calibre. It’s one of their third-party movements based on the Sellita SW200-1 a, with 41-hour power reserve. The red decoration of the rotor (present on all versions) makes thematic sense for once, mirroring the colour of the dial.
The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Burgundy is priced at £1,750, matching the other 40mm models from the 2025 collection. It’s a solid expansion to the line, adding one of 2026’s trendiest colours to the range. Nothing earthshattering, but more options for collectors are always welcome.
