Cavasino watches made their debut in the summer of last year with the Masterpiece DCR-01, a micro-rotor tourbillon wristwatch. It’s the project of Didier Cavasino, an engineer with 17 years of experience in Swiss watchmaking who sought to create an independent brand that combines modern precision with human artistry and ingenuity. Using the latest production techniques but respecting tradition by hand-finishing every component. For 2026 they’re presenting the next interpretation of the watch, the DCT-02 Carbon Opal, which we have been hands-on with in Geneva.
Picking up the watch, the first thing you notice is the bright colour of the dial. The debut models featured monotone colours with a metallic, hammered finish but here they’ve instead used Australian opal with vibrant shades of green or blue that seem to shift in the light (there is also a red edition not pictured here). Every stone that’s used has been personally picked by Didier to ensure quality, individuality and character. I keep wondering if the stone dial trend that became the zeitgeist a few years ago is slowing down, but when I see watches like this, it makes me think anything but.
The second significant update with the DCT-02 compared to the DCR-01 is the case material. DCR-01 was made from full titanium but the DCT-02 introduces a hybrid of titanium and forged carbon. The main case body and lugs are made from carbon with the signature irregular pattern that’s formed when the carbon fibres are forged together with resin under immense temperature and pressure. To give the piece a clean finish, the caseback and bezel are made from titanium. The combination of two super lightweight materials means that it weighs barely anything on the wrist. It’s also not a big watch at (from my own measurements) approximately 39mm x 10.5mm.
Powering the Cavasino DCT-02 Carbon Opal is the automatic FT60-S tourbillon movement with symmetrical architecture. Mechanically it’s the same as the movement in the DCR-01 but the finishing has been completely overhauled for this second version. The micro-rotor features the hammered finish that used to be on the dial of the original model while the mainplate has a gentle frosting that makes it appear almost matte save for the bevelled edges. The twin barrels feature a new guilloché engraving that really shines under the light. Mechanically those twin barrels provide a 70-hour power reserve.
Turning the watch over again, let’s zoom in on the tourbillon itself for a moment. It’s a 60-second tourbillon, which means it completes a full rotation once per minute, allowing it to double as the seconds counter thanks to its indicator and graduated scale around the outside of the tourbillon cage. In the centre you can see the balance spring which oscillates while being rotated inside its cage to offset the effects of gravity on the precision of the movement. This tourbillon is particularly large, occupying a significant portion of the display and really drawing your attention.
There will be 15 Cavasino DCT-02 Carbon Opal watches produced – 10 in green/blue and five in red. In total there will eventually be 50 DCT-02 watches produced with various finishes and materials. That is in order to match the 50 DCR-01 watches that were produced. Once the full 100 pieces of Cavasino’s inaugural project have been produced, they will move on to a new project.
No official price has been announced for the DCT-02 but we know the DCR-01 was CHF77,000 (approx. £70,000) for the titanium model. However, given the opal dial, completely different finishing and forged carbon case body, that’s only the loosest guideline.
