At Hands On Horology this weekend, Beda’a unveiled a new limited edition inspired by the event’s home city, London. More specifically, it features a design based on the iconic Elizabeth Tower while mechanically it uses their best-selling Angles collection as a base. The Beda’a Angles Mecaline London Edition is limited to 50 pieces and will be available to purchase from August.
Jumping straight to the dial, it has an engraved surface decorated with the quatrefoil and floral details of the Elizabeth Tower and its legendary clock face. The style is replicated with an immense amount of precision, as are the gothic typeface numerals at 12/3/9. The pattern is interrupted at 6 o’clock by a smooth small seconds subdial. I actually really like the interruption because it gives the watch face a lot of structure and makes it feel more original than a 1-to-1 copy of the original design.
Of course, one of the most original parts of the Angles Mecaline London Edition is its case. While there are many brands that have used octagonal cases in the past (most famously the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak), the clarity and uniformity of the Angles’ design is particularly sharp and attractive. The layering of the case body and bezel works really well and the combination of brushed and polished finishing emphasises the titular angles nicely. Plus, at 37mm with a thickness of 5.8mm it’s very svelte compared to the bulky sports designs of watches like the RO.
Inside the case is the ETA 7001 manual-winding calibre with 42-hour power reserve. Being manual helps ensure the slim profile as there’s no self-winding rotor to accommodate. It’s a movement we’re familiar with at Oracle Time because the same base calibre is used in the Isotope x Oracle Time Mercury Vitreous.
The Beda’a Angles Mecaline London Edition is limited to 50 pieces at a price of CHF 1,250 (approx. £1,170), which is only slightly higher than the standard models that are approx. £1,120). For an interesting limited edition with a bespoke dial pattern, that’s really solid value.
