It has been over a month since the F1 season took an extended break due to cancelled races meant to take place in the Middle East. In celebration of the cars’ return to the track in Miami next weekend, H. Moser & Cie (official partners of the Alpine team) have released the Bucherer Exclusive Pioneer Tourbillon Miami. A 28-piece limited edition available strictly through the Bucherer 1888 retailer.

The watch is all about that Floridian lifestyle with classic Miami Vice colours of turquoise and pink highlighted across the sunray brushed dial and rubber strap. It’s not technically part of the Concept Pop collection but boy does it POP. As lurid as a heat and humidity induced fever dream. Which is the entire appeal. Adding a third colour to the display, the central hands have vibrant green lume to add some low light legibility, so the party doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down.

Structurally, the watch measures 40mm in diameter with a 12mm thickness including the domed crystal. It’s made from steel with a 120m water resistance rating, in keeping with the Pioneer being H. Moser & Cie.’s sportiest model as well as the F1 theme. Though admittedly it is only tangentially F1 related due to the release timing coinciding with the GP.

Inside the case is the HMC 805 automatic tourbillon movement. The tourbillon is presented through an openheart aperture at 6 o’clock on the dial, with its rotating cage ensuring that the effects of gravity are evenly distributed across the balance spring, improving isochronism. It has a 72-hour power reserve supplied by its skeletonised rose gold rotor.

As noted in the introduction, the Bucherer Exclusive Pioneer Tourbillon Miami is limited to 28 pieces and is priced at £59,900 including VAT. Personally I find this watch to be a bit too much, too bright and in your face. But then, that’s Miami for you, a city that’s brash and ready to party.
