Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver x GiantMouse

Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver x GiantMouse

GiantMouse is a Danish-American tool knife brand producing practical equipment for use in the woods, kitchen or even while diving underwater. It’s that latter function that we’re focussing on here with the GiantMouse collaboration with Zodiac and their flagship dive watch, the Super Sea Wolf Pro-Diver. A slightly different interpretation of the ‘two piece collection’ than we normally talk about at Oracle Time but one developed to take the difficulties of life below the waves.

Starting with the watch, it’s a fun interpretation of the standard Super Sea Wolf Pro-Diver. It has all the usual specs including 42mm diameter and 300m water resistance rating but an unusual colourway in black, orange and blue. The main disk of the display is sunray brushed in black with orange markings across the hour scale, flange mounted minute scale and 60-minute bezel. The bezel itself is produced with a pale blue ceramic insert. The blue colour is inspired by a vintage, 1970s Zodiac diver owned by one of the GiantMouse founders.

I really like the combination of colours. It feels bright and inviting while also retaining the practical qualities required by a professional dive watch such as legibility. As I’ve also noted many times, my favourite colour is orange and this watch hits the spot perfectly. There’s also plenty of lume for low light readability across the hands and hour markers.

The watch is powered by the Swiss STP 1-21 automatic calibre with COSC chronometer certification with 41-hour power reserve. As a chronometer it adheres to strict regulations including achieving an accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day – though COSC recently announced the introduction of a new Excellence Chronometer rating that you can read about here.

Partnered with the watch is the GiantMouse x Zodiac Dive Knife. It’s specially adapted for use underwater, with the most obvious change being the use of a blunt tip to prevent accidental puncturing if you lose control during a strong underwater swell or current. Structurally it’s made from N360 Satin Steel, which is particularly corrosion resistant for use in salt water. The handle is made from black anodised aluminium with perforated holes to allow water to pass through it, making it easier to manipulate underwater and also easier to clean after use. The blade itself is partially serrated to make it easier to cut through fibrous material like netting or seaweed and there’s a line-cutting slot for fishing.

The GiantMouse x Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro-Diver Watch and Knife set is priced at $2,295 (approx. £1,690) with orders beginning on 23rd February at 5pm GMT. This is one of my favourite interpretations of the Super Sea Wolf in a few years, a practical dive watch actually designed for use in its intended purpose. An extra tool with the knife is just a bonus.
