The Formula 1 season is approaching the sharp edge of competition now as Max Verstappen launches a late campaign to catch up to the McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris who are themselves embroiled in an intense dual for the championship. This weekend, November 8-9, the competition moves to Brazil for the São Paulo Grand Prix. When it comes to Brazil and F1, there’s one name that comes to the fore, Ayrton Senna. In celebration of his legacy and their connection to F1, Tag Heuer has released a duo of Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Senna special editions.
Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Senna 44mm

The first of the special editions is based on the Formula 1 Chronograph revamp in titanium launched earlier this year. It’s a broad 44mm diameter piece that offsets that size by being made from lightweight grade 2 titanium with a black DLC coating. For the Senna version, that’s paired with a high-tech forged carbon bezel featuring his signature S logo.
Continuing the theme, the dial is sunray brushed black to match the DLC case while the chronograph hands are lacquer yellow. The 12-hour subdial at 6 o’clock shows the colours of the Brazilian flag arranged in the band design of Senna’s famous racing helmet. The S logo makes a reappearance on the small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock while 12 o’clock features a 30-minute counter.

Inside, it houses the Tag Heuer Calibre 16 with 42-hour power reserve. It’s based on the ETA 7750 and is the standard automatic movement of the Formula 1 range, not just the modern revamp. This special edition is priced at £4,950, which is roughly £1,000 higher than the standard edition due to the additional elements such as the carbon bezel and custom subdials.

In addition to the automatic edition, there’s also a quartz Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Senna at a diameter of 43mm. This version is made from steel with a round case design instead of the angular mechanical edition. Additionally, the bezel here is aluminium rather than carbon, although it retains the Senna S at 12 o’clock.

The biggest give away that this is a quartz model is the positioning of the chronograph subdials. They’re tightly clustered around the middle of the display and the small seconds and 30-minute counter sit slightly above horizontal axis instead of in line with the central hands like most mechanical chronos. The 6 o’clock 12-hour counter is decorated with the same helmet inspired design as its mechanical counterpart. It’s limited to 3,000 pieces at £2,300.
