Seiko’s “Power Design” series is their annual concept line that’s produced more as a creative outlet for their designers rather than with any serious consideration that they might become production models. Watches like the Egg Boiling Watch from 2025 and Panda in 2024 that are fun but ridiculous. However, the unthinkable has happened as Seiko have taken one of the 2023 concept watches and created a limited production run based on it, so we had to take the opportunity to get hands-on with it: the Seiko Limited Edition Ladies Power Design.

It’s a 20mm ladies’ jewellery watch based on the original ‘TISSE our time’ concept inspired by the 1984 Seiko TISSE. Where the original 1984 version had a bracelet consisting of regular sized beads, the Power Design is more experimental with differently sized and finished links on the 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock halves of the bracelet. The 12 o’clock side has large, saucer-like links that almost look like mini watch cases in their own right while the 6 o’clock ones are much smaller with facetted angles.

On the wrist it’s unsurprisingly a little bit tight for me as I am definitively not the target audience. However, I can well imagine that it could be an interesting accessory as part of a woman’s outfit or even one of the trendy men with slim wrists that capture the headlines at the moment, á la Timothy Chalamet. A Seiko for the red carpet, how daring.

Inside the watch is the 4N30 quartz movement with two hands, a calibre typically used in Seiko’s rectangle tank-style watches. Here though the dial is circular with slim markers for the hours. The dial is available in black, gold or silver, matching the case and bracelet colours. Of the three I prefer the elegance of the steel-coloured model, it reminds me of a classic silver charm bracelet.

It also happens to be the slightly more accessible of the trio at £340 with the two coated versions at £380. They’re each limited to 500 pieces globally and in the UK are exclusive to Seiko’s London Bond Street boutique. It’s not the typical style of watch we cover on Oracle Time but if you’re looking for a horological gift for your significant other for Christmas or Valentine’s next year, they go on sale in December.
