Audemars Piguet Unveil Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon Stone Dial Limited Editions

Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon 38mm

If you’ve been reading Oracle Time lately, it should be pretty apparent that the stone dial trend is well and truly starting to dominate. In the past month we’ve seen stone dials from Gerald Genta, Dennison, Frederique Constant, and Farer. That’s in less than 30 days. If you count the past 12 months, the number of stone dials is even more substantial. Adding to the list are the new Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon Stone Dial Limited Editions.

At their core, the new watches are just dial updates to the 38mm Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon that was released earlier this year. You can also consider them downsized versions of the stone dial 41mm versions. There are three references in the new stone collection, two in pink gold and one in white gold. The first pink gold number has a malachite dial, which is the most traditional of the stones on display here with its rich green tone and striated pattern.

Second of the pink gold releases is a more unusual stone in the form of blue sodalite. It’s a stone known for its intense blue hue and naturally occurring white veins that add character to the display and ensure each dial is utterly unique. Completing the trio is the white gold edition, which features a ruby root stone display. The term ‘ruby root’ has multiple definitions but in this context it likely refers to a stone with a high corundum composition, which is the material that gives rubies their red colour.

Below those stone dials is the selfwinding calibre 2968, an automatic movement with 50-hour power reserve. Its signature feature is obviously the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock which is designed to offset the effects of gravity on the movement, though in practical terms mostly serves to make the balance wheel look more impressive. Its gold colouration pairs with the central hands that point to a peripheral minute track.

Each of the Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon Stone Dial watches is limited to 150 pieces in honour of Audemars Piguet’s 150th anniversary. At 38mm they’re a versatile collection with unisex appeal.
