Piaget Launch Altiplano Ultimate Khaki Duet with Concept Tourbillon and Automatic Models

Piaget Altiplano

There are a lot of watchmakers interested in pushing boundaries and breaking records and one of the most popular records to smash is the world’s thinnest wristwatch. It’s a title that has variously been held by Bulgari, Richard Mille, Konstantin Chaykin (who took the title in 2024 and the brand at the centre of this article, Piaget. Piaget’s ultra-thin line is the Altiplano Ultimate, which today sees two of its models receive fresh updates in khaki green, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon Khaki and Altiplano Ultimate Automatic 910P Khaki.

The Altiplano Ultimate Automatic 910P Khaki is modestly chunkier than its counterpart at 4.3mm with a diameter of 40mm but that larger case surface area means there’s a greater variety of materials it can be made from. Here it’s made from yellow gold for the first time, giving it a sense of being an ancient, uncovered treasure. That golden case is paired with a thoroughly khaki green display, with the entire dial sporting the colour.

It features a cool radial pattern in the centre of the hour and minute display with stepped scale around the edge providing a layered appearance. That radial pattern continues on the plate between the exposed gears and power reserve indicator that run from 12 o’clock to 10. It makes for a much more traditional display in comparison the strong three-tone design of the tourbillon model with its exposed cobalt alloy, but at the same time the Automatic’s comparative simplicity makes for a more impactful first impression. In simple terms, it’s a khaki green model with more khaki green on it.

Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon Khaki

The battle to create the world’s thinnest tourbillon wristwatch is technically a sub-category in the fight to create the world’s thinnest watch. A tourbillon is much more complex than a standard regulating organ due to the additional mechanisms involved in making it rotate constantly and is therefore much bulkier. However, the Ultimate Concept Tourbillon manages to compress that technology inside a case that is just 2mm thick (currently pipped for the title by the 1.85mm Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon).

In order to achieve that slimness, the case is made from a resilient cobalt alloy. Indeed, to call it a case is something of a misnomer because the movement itself, the calibre 970P-UC, is built into it – using it as a mainplate. However, while space is extremely limited, that’s not to say there’s no room for some decoration or colour. The hour and minute subdial, offset towards 1 o’clock, along with the exposed plate running through to 4 o’clock, are presented in khaki green for the first time. It pairs nicely with the gold accents elsewhere on the display to make the watch feel like a lost relic discovered in a jungle. A weirdly advanced and high-tech relic probably left on Earth by aliens.
