We might all have to spend more than enough time atop the idiomatical porcelain throne, but it seems Laurent Ferrier has made every attempt to claim it for themselves. Granted their use of the delicate material is far, far less vulgar; in fact, it’s positively beautiful. Using the smooth, tactile case that gives the Galet its name (‘pebble’ in French), Laurent Ferrier has opted for a bright white porcelain dial.
The unbroken brightness is crisper than a triple-cooked chip and the mirror polished, white gold case – particularly with those signature curved edges – plays counterpoint to the difficult material’s pure white. The only other embellishments are Breguet-style numerals with the 12 in red and gold applied indices. It’s minimal in a way only Laurent Ferrier can achieve and far, far nicer than the everyday use of porcelain. A bit less vital perhaps, but a whole lot more stunning.
